IS OOGIE'S A HEALTHY SNACK? I MEAN, REALLY; SHOULD I BE EATING THIS?
Yes! Oogie’s items have some of the lowest fat and calories in the entire popcorn category. In fact, there are popcorn companies out there with ‘Skinny’ in their names- and not only are we healthier, we serve up a LOT more flavor!!
IS OOGIE'S NON-GMO?
Yes! We use non-GMO ingredients and non-GMO corn in ALL our items. Most of the corn grown in the U.S. is genetically modified, but we ensure that none of ours is and never has been. In fact, we know our farmers and our seasoners- we know where absolutely everything comes from.
IS OOGIE'S ALL-NATURAL?
Yes! There’s nothing artificial in our items- no flavors, colors or preservatives. Remember, the whole idea was to create great, healthy snacks. You like freedom? Well, we’re free of GMOs, MSG, peanuts, soy, tree nuts, and gluten. How’s that for free?
IS OOGIE’S GLUTEN-FREE?
Yes! All Oogie’s products are entirely gluten-free.
DOES OOGIE’S CONTAIN TRANS-FAT? AND WHAT IS THAT, ANYWAY?
No! No Oogie's items contain trans fat. Trans fat are a type of unsaturated fat, made during the partial hydrogenation of vegetable oils. There have been studies linking the consumption of trans fats with heart disease. The FDA requires the amount of trans fat to be listed in nutrition labeling. Although Oogie's items don't contain any trans fat, they can contain other types of unsaturated and saturated fats- so check those labels!
IS OOGIE’S ORGANIC?
Not at the moment, but watch this space. Or as the kids say, ‘Coming Soon’.
DOES OOGIE’S CONTAIN NUTS?
No! All our items are free of peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, eggs.
WHAT ABOUT YOUR FACILITIES? ANY NUTS, OR ANY TOP ALLERGENS?
No! None of our manufacturing plants process nuts, soy, wheat, or shellfish.
I’M TRACKING MY CALORIES; HOW DO YOU MEASURE A CUP OF POPCORN?
Oogie's items have between 40 and 43 calories per cup, depending on the popcorn flavor. Here's how you can measure at home: place popped popcorn into a measuring cup and shake it lightly, allowing the corn to settle against each other. Don't press on the top of the popcorn as this breaks it and produces an inaccurate measurement. The popcorn should be level with the measuring line rather than creating a rounded top for the most accurate measurement. Remember, though, popcorn kernels are not uniform, so it's not an exact science. FYI one cup fully formed popped kernels typically weighs between 6 to 8 grams.
HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN?
Oogie’s Gourmet Popcorn was the brainchild of a small group of college friends who wanted to create a healthy snack alternative. A couple of self-professed foodies who loved snacks – particularly popcorn - but could never find exactly what we were looking for in terms of flavor.
So, we gathered in our kitchens in Denver, Colorado, and experimented with gourmet seasonings and ingredients until we came up with recipes we loved. The result? Oogie’s Gourmet Popcorn with all-natural cheeses and spices, some of which had never been used on snack foods before - let alone popcorn.
We sampled it to all our friends and family, figuring out how to get it into stores, etc. We were up at 3 am every morning making it, bagging it, delivering it, sampling it and doing all the business stuff every night. Then we’d do it all again the next day. Once we knew we had something special, we took it to retail.
As for the name Oogie, it’s a nod to a college roommate who’s no longer with us. His nickname was Doogie, which evolved into Oogie – a silly sounding moniker that finally stuck. Oogie was a quirky, colorful character who inspired us to laugh and have fun at every corner. Plus, Oogie’s is a name that brings a smile to your face every time you say it. Go ahead; say it right now and see what happens!
